بسم الله الرّحمن الرحيم
Then he inspected the birds, and said, “Why do I not see the hoopoe? Or is he among the absentees?
Surah An-Naml (The Ants), 20
1️⃣ Divine mercy that includes all creatures
-
The child reflects on how God’s mercy is not limited to humans, but also includes a small bird that God chose as a messenger of goodness and knowledge.
-
The child understands that God, the Most Merciful, gives every creature its place and role, even if it seems small in our eyes.
2️⃣ Divine creativity in creation
-
The child observes the beauty of the hoopoe: its crown, colors, and movements, as a sign of God’s creativity and the diversity of His creation.
-
The child feels that this beauty is not random, but a sign that invites reflection and gratitude.
3️⃣ Scientific facts that awaken wonder
-
The child learns that the hoopoe has a special ability to detect worms and water beneath the ground through the high sensitivity of its beak, as if God taught it what we cannot see.
-
The child reflects on how science and the Qur’an come together to show the precision of creation and God’s wisdom.
4️⃣ Gratitude for blessings we may not always notice
-
The child learns to say: Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God) for the blessings of knowledge, sight, and understanding.
-
The child realizes that every living being around us is a blessing and a message, if we learn to observe carefully.
5️⃣ Trust in God’s wisdom in assigning roles
-
The child reflects on how God used the hoopoe to change the course of a great event, which gives a sense of safety:
As long as God is the Wise Planner, each of us has an important role. -
The child develops gratitude for being part of this harmonious creation.
* Reflective Activity: I am like the hoopoe… and I have a mission
- Activity goals
-
Help the child discover their unique qualities and God-given gifts
-
Strengthen their sense of value and role in the world
-
Understand the idea of mission and light in an age-appropriate way
-
Connect this to the birth of Imam al-Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance), as a symbol of hope and guidance
- Materials
-
A white sheet of paper
-
Coloring pencils
-
A small mirror (optional – or imaginary)
-
A star or heart sticker (optional)
- Step 1: Introduction
Say calmly to the child:
“The hoopoe is a small bird, but God gave it special abilities and chose it to carry an important message.
And you too… God created you with something special.”
Then ask:
-
Would you like to discover together what God has given you?
- Step 2
If a mirror is available, ask the child to look at themselves and say:
“Look… this is you. God loves you and placed a special light inside you.”
Without a mirror:
-
Ask the child to draw their face or their heart in the center of the page.
- Step 3
Draw 3 circles or stars around the child or the heart, and help them discover one quality in each.
Simple questions (choose 2 or 3):
-
What do you like to do? (draw, help, make others laugh…)
-
When do people say “thank you” to you?
-
What is something beautiful about you?
✏️ The child draws or we write simple words:
kind – brave – smart – patient – helpful
- Always remind: “This is a gift from God to you.”
- Step 4: My mission
Say to the child: “The hoopoe had a mission.
And Imam al-Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance) is the Imam of light and justice.
He teaches us to be kind and to spread goodness.”
Then gently ask:
-
How do you like to spread goodness?
With a smile? Helping others? A kind word? Good behavior?
✍️ The child writes or draws a simple sentence:
My mission is:
-
to be kind
-
to help
-
to spread joy
- Step 5: Connecting to the birth of Imam al-Mahdi
Say: “On the birth of Imam al-Mahdi, we are happy because God sent a light to guide people.
And you too… you have a small light. Every time you are kind, that light grows.”
Add a star or draw light around the picture ⭐
- Final step: How can we be among those who prepare the way?
Say gently and with a smile: “Imam al-Mahdi loves kind children.
He is happy when we prepare the world with goodness.”
Explain simply:
- We prepare the way when:
-
we are kind to our family and friends
-
we help those who need help
-
we do not hurt anyone with our words or hands
-
we take care of the earth and animals
-
we say: O God, make me a kind child who loves goodness
The child repeats:
“I am like the hoopoe.
God gave me beautiful qualities and a mission to spread goodness.
I prepare the way with my kind heart and small actions,
so goodness spreads in the world,
and I wait for Imam al-Mahdi with joy
I love goodness and I help.”
✨ Conclusion
Say to the child: “Every small thing you do — a smile, a helping hand, a kind word —
is a light that makes the Imam happy and plants goodness in the world.”
