اسم الهدهد مُحاكي للصوت، إذ سُمّيَ نسبةً إلى تغريده الرقيق ذي النبرة البعيدة "بو-بو-بو"

Hoopoes have a reputation of being stinky and having a Smelly nest. In facette female Hoopoe emit an odor that smells like rotent meat. This stinky act is a defence mecanisme to push away predators and all threats.
