Verse of the Week 7 – The Clay Season #5

Verse of the Week — Clay

Allah, the Most High, says:

“And indeed, We created man from an extract of clay.”
(Surah Al-Mu’minun, verse 12)

Detailed Educational and Reflective Objectives for Children

1. Divine creativity in creation

This theme aims for the child to:

  • Understand that Allah created the human being from a simple material (clay), then transformed it into a complex living being who thinks, moves, and learns.

  • Observe the contrast between the simplicity of the original material (clay/earth) and the complexity of the human body, reinforcing the concept of divine creativity.

  • Realize that creation is not random, but carried out with precise measure and perfect order.

  • Reflect on the diversity of human shapes, colors, and abilities while sharing one common origin, strengthening the idea of diversity within a single creation.

  • Connect Allah’s ability to shape clay with His ability to develop and nurture human growth over time.

2. Divine mercy and the gentleness of the Creator

This theme aims for the child to:

  • Recognize that choosing clay (a soft, flexible material) for human creation reflects Allah’s mercy and kindness toward humanity.

  • Understand that Allah created human beings capable of learning, changing, and being shaped, not rigid or harsh.

  • Relate the softness of clay to their own ability to correct mistakes and grow anew.

  • Feel inner security when realizing that Allah created them with mercy, not with harshness or punishment.

  • Develop gratitude toward Allah for their body, health, and ability to move and express themselves.

3. Harmony between the Qur’an and modern science

This theme aims for the child to:

  • Discover that the Qur’an mentioned the earthly origin of human beings thousands of years ago.

  • Learn in a simple way that modern science has proven that the human body contains the same elements found in the earth.

  • Understand that these elements are present within body cells and encoded in DNA.

  • Imagine DNA as “precise instructions” placed by Allah inside every cell.

  • Realize that science does not contradict the Qur’an, but rather confirms its message.

  • Develop a love for scientific discovery connected to faith and reflection.

4. Building self-awareness and human values

This theme aims for the child to:

  • Learn humility by understanding that their origin comes from the earth.

  • Balance the simplicity of their origin with the noble human value Allah has granted them.

  • Strengthen respect for their body and avoid harming it.

  • Develop a sense of responsibility toward the earth from which they were created.

  • Understand that human dignity comes from creation and intellect, not merely from appearance.

Fun and Hands-On Activity for Children

Activity: “What Am I Made Of?”

Activity Idea

A game + movement + thinking activity
that helps children discover that their bodies are made of elements found in the earth, through play and interactive movement.

Materials

  • Paper cards (or small pieces of paper) with the following written on them:

    • Iron

    • Calcium

    • Water

    • Magnesium

    • Sodium

    • (Optional: Oxygen)

  • A basket or box

  • Tape

Activity Steps (15 minutes)

1️⃣ Preparation

The cards are taped to the corners of the room or placed in a basket.

The teacher says to the children:

“Today, we’re going to play a game… and discover the secret of our bodies!”

2️⃣ The Game

Each child picks a card at random.
They read (or are helped to read) the name of the element.

The teacher says a fun sentence for each element:

  • Calcium: “It helps your bones become strong!”

  • Iron: “It helps your blood carry oxygen!”

  • Water: “It keeps your body alive and active!”

  • Magnesium: “It helps your muscles move!”

  • Sodium: “It helps messages travel inside your body!”

➡️ Then the teacher adds:

“All of these elements exist in the earth… and from them, human beings were created!”

3️⃣ Movement

After each card, a short movement:

  • Strong bones → stretch your arms

  • Heart → two small jumps

  • Water → gentle swaying

  • Muscles → walking in place

(Movement = fun + learning)

4️⃣ Linking to the verse

The teacher says:

“Allah tells us in the Qur’an that He created human beings from clay…
and today, science tells us that our bodies are made from elements found in the earth.”

Conclusion

The teacher asks:

  • “Are we made of toys? ”

  • “Are we made of gold? ”

Children: Noooo!

  • “So, what are we made of?”
    The earth!

Then conclude:

“But Allah gave us a mind and a heart… and that is true creativity.”
